Atumel Cali-De leon
Atumel is a genderless anomaly who is deeply woven into many aspects of community care and liberation locally and internationally. They are Mam, Poqomchi’, and Q’eqchi’ Maya, with parents who immigrated to the so-called United States from so-called Guatemala in the late 80’s. Having grown up in South Texas, they bring a southern warmth to their facilitation practice and relationships (be ready to laugh and probably cry together in the same sitting!). After moving to Oregon in 2015, they earned a B.S in Public Health Education from Portland State University and currently lives on unceded Chinook territory. They bring over 7 years of experience in various data projects and programs across tribal, county, state, and non-profit organizations. In their free time they practice danza, study herbalism, and take on sewing projects.
Their facilitation practice is influenced by popular education models, somatic practices, and Maya cosmovision. Participating in a workshop with Atumel reminds you of your humanity in a world that so easily distracts us - knowing that each day serves a special purpose in our unlearning and growth towards liberation.
